Climate Smart Farming Resource

New York Extension Disaster Education Network

It is projected that the frequency of severe weather events will increase with the onset of climate change. These weather events can have devastating effects on individuals, families, and communities. The New York State Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) is a collaborative educational network based at Cornell University that aims to educate and assist New York residents with “preventing, preparing for, and recovering from emergencies and disasters that could affect their families and communities”.

As stated on their website, the goals of NY EDEN are to:
  • Disseminate educational materials relating to emergency preparedness and recovery in order to reduce the impact of disasters on individuals and communities.
  • Provide emergency preparedness training and resources for Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) staff, businesses and community residents.
  • Assist CCE Associations in establishing partnerships and plans to assist their communities, through education, in emergency/disaster preparations and recovery.
  • Distribute credible resource materials before, during, and after a disaster.
